class crime novel, rich in detail and dripping with suspense from the opening pages When high school cheerleader and all American good girl Haley Cooke disappears from her school, the local police are baffled Her family is devastated, her collage boyfriend anxious and distraught, and her friends at a loss After almost a month, the locals ask for help from the FBI and they get it in the form of this series main character, profiler Evelyn Blaine But another case opens up at the college the boyfriend attends A coed has been beaten severely and only managed to escape with her life She claims she was part of a human trafficking ring and wants protection through the FBI Enter former HRT agent Kyle McKenzie, Evelyn s new boyfriend in the FBI, who is recovering from a gun wound and is now in the Civil Rights section He and his new partner are assigned to the battered coed case, but soon they find their case overlapping with Evelyn s The suspense grows steadily throughout the well written story, suspicions shadow every chapter and the cases becomeconvoluted as the story progresses Yet there is never a moment when the telling feels forced, or the characters act out of place My only regret is now I face having to go and read the prior three Profiler novels I did win this book through the GoodRads program Forof my reviews, visit If you re reading this, I m already dead When the something bad would happen to her, and possibly who was after her, the local police call in Evelyn Baine, a profiler for the FBI Stalked is the fourth installment in The Profiler series, and I have to be honest, I hadn t read the other three They ve been on my list for a while, and I just hadn t gotten to them yet I d heard from another reviewer that they also read it without having read the preceding books and had no issues following the story, so I decided to give it a shot The book follows two paths, one where Evelyn and her partner on the case Sophia as they work the disappearance of Haley Everyone in her life from her father, to her stepfather, to her boyfriend seems to be suspicious and they all seem like they are hiding things It makes it a really intense and engaging read The second path follows Evelyn s boyfriend Kyle, who also works for the FBI as he works a human trafficking case Throughout the book they teeter on whether or not the cases are related You ll have to wait until the end to find out I have to say, I enjoyed this book immensely Once I got sucked in, I really couldn t put it down So many things kept happening, but not to the point where it was overwhelming or hard to follow It was definitely a thriller, that s for sure I liked the main characters a lot, and felt right there with them as they uncovered clues and dead ends I really enjoyed the scenes where the detectives were throwing theories about what happened off of each other, because I feel like that s probably what actually happens on cases in real life The human trafficking portion of the book felt well researched and not totally unrealistic, which I also really enjoyed There were a lot of moments throughout the book that totally caught me off guard and even a few that gave me goosebumps I felt like I couldn t read fast enough to find out what happened next Needless to say, Elizabeth Heiter has new fan in me, and I can t wait to go back and read the rest of the her series Stalked will be released on December 27th, 2016, so mark your calendars A huge thank you to Netgalley, Harlequin, and Elizabeth Heiter for the ARC in exchange for an honest review All of my reviews can be found on www.novelgossip.comThis read much like an episode of Criminal Minds which I mean as a huge compliment as it s one one of my favorite shows My husband and I have watched every single episode from all twelve seasons, so to say that I m a fan is putting it mildly I was initially grabbed by the blurb because it sounded so similar, and though it definitely is, this book is unique enough that it stands out on it s own It s also the fourth book in Heiter s Profiler All of my reviews can be found on www.novelgossip.comThis read much like an episode of Criminal Minds which I mean grabbed by the blurb because it sounded so similar, and though it definitely is, this book is unique enough that it stands out on it s own It s also the fourth book in Heiter s Profiler series, but I haven t read the first three books and had no issues catching up The opening definitely pulls the reader in, Haley has been missing for thirty days and the FBI in the form of Evelyn Baine is called in for assistance Right away a missing piece of evidence is discovered, a note from Haley saying, if you re reading this, I m already dead It certainly upped my interest and added something dark and sinister to the story What follows as Evelyn and a local police officer, Sophia dig into Haley s life is a web of secrets and shocking revelations.Heiter is a skilled writer and the level of detail she adds is astounding, you can tell she really knows what she s talking about as far as the profiler stuff is concerned Though there is so much going on and so much information is being relayed, I was never bored Quite the opposite actually, I was fascinated There were tons of characters to work through making trying to figure out who the culprit is even tougher for Evelyn and the reader The plot was complex and intricate with a great deal of thought put behind it and the characters were also well developed I liked both Evelyn and her boyfriend Kyle, both separately and together and I know I ll enjoy following their story as the series continues The suspense was slow burning, but mounting throughout and it definitely ramped up towards the end and the conclusion provided clear cut answers and nicely executed twists When I picked up this book I didn t realise it was the 4th book in the Profiler series, now I m not sure about you but I usually hate to start a book which is already part of a well established series, but I m pleased to report it can be read as a standalone I m going to be honest with you here and admit that although I enjoyed Stalked it just didn t meet my expectations The first chapter certainly intrigued me, but as I read on this wasn t a book that grabbed me by the throat Don t get me wr When I picked up this book I didn t realise it was the 4th I m going to be honest with you here and admit that although I enjoyed Stalked it just didn t meet my expectations The first chapter certainly intrigued me, but as I read on this wasn t a book that grabbed me by the throat Don t get me wrong I enjoyed Stalked, but maybe because I have read so many outstanding crime thrillers this year I m expect a hell of a lotfrom a book of this genre. When seventeen year old Hayley goes missing without leaving a trace FBI Profiler Evelyn Blaine is bought in to assist as the police are mystified by her disappearance, it soon becomes clear to Evelyn that those closest to Hayley all have something to hide Not knowing if Hayley is alive or dead, Evelyn must use all her skills as a Profiler to find Hayley and bring the perpetrator to justice I could not connect with Evelyn at all, I m not sure if this was because I picked up Stalked mid series, but I just felt she lacked personality , I like my protagonist to have quirks, or traits that make me want to learnabout them, I need a character to be memorable so I m eagerly waiting for the next book in a series, unfortunately this wasn t the case with Evelyn. The plot is full of intrigue and suspense but for me it lacked the relentless pace I look for in a crime thriller, in the authors defence I think this again boils down the amount of outstanding books I ve read in this genre At times it felt like the investigation was moving too slowly and there was no frantic race to solve the case, which for me personally heightens my enjoyment of a book.As I reached the last third of the book I found myself becoming irritated by the number of different theories the investigation team came up with, there were just too many and made the plot a lotcomplex than it needed to be I m sure there will be plenty of readers who will feel very differently about this novel, and will enjoy it immensely, the author has produced a novel that has some of the elements I look for in a crime thriller but personally I would have liked aintense and gritty read Talented thriller author,Elizabeth Heiterreturns with her highly anticipated Profiler series, following Hunted The Profiler, 1 , Vanished The
