I think my problem with this book, as with the rest of the series, was that it lacked focus I think that the author was trying to pull off a complex, intricately woven story where everything was connected to everything else, but all that everything got away from her early on and never quite managed to get pulled back in to make a workable pattern Plot threads were created and then abandoned in favour of other ones without being tied off first, characters acted in irrationally stupid ways in or I think my problem with this book, as with the rest of the series, was that it lacked focus I think that the author was trying to pull off a complex, intricately woven story where everything was connected to everything else, but all that everything got away from her early on and never quite managed to get pulled back in to make a workable pattern Plot threads were created and then abandoned in favour of other ones without being tied off first, characters acted in irrationally stupid ways in order to fulfill those new plot threads view spoiler such as Deirdre adamantly clinging to Stark and what he stood for over the entire series even though as early as the second book he said very clearly through both words and actions that he didn t care about anyone, he only wanted to be Alpha so he could gain an army first to try and impress Rhiannon and then to go after her when she humiliated him, and that vengeance was his only priority Quite how she got Equality for All from him telling compelling her to murder people is anyones guess hide spoiler , and the ending was a complete deus ex machina view spoiler where the god of the universe literally saysFuck it Whateverand brings Deirdre back from really permanent death of the Sluagh devouring her soul so she could aim for her HEA because she was so noble, loyal and good Despite her many, many actions through out the series that shows that actually she s not really that great a person since she d murder hundreds of people if she was told to, would feed her best and only friend to vampires when pissed off, and was responsible for millions in damages and loss of livelihoods of the very downtrodden masses she said she cared about hide spoiler I give this 2 stars because though it was confusing, made very little sense and I thought it had some of the most stilted dialogue I ve read for a long time, it did at least give me some answers no matter how disappointing or anti climatic I found them to be Also if I gave Beta a 2 star rating when I actively disliked much of the content then I can t very well give this a lower rating simply because it was muddled and a bit tiresome I would like to give the entire series a serious avoid at all costs label, but that s my personal opinion and lots of other people seem to like it just fine, so maybe it s just me that has problems following and appreciating everything Each to their own I guess.TL DR Over 4 books a lot of poorly explained events happen just so things can basically stay the same I m left wondering what the entire point of it really was Great series but not the same without Everton Stark The plot s didn t quit add up and where a little of a mess You get thrown from left to right Try to follow up the author but know you are not really up to speed I missed a strong story line and I really missed Everton Stark, this character has given de last three books an edge that made the books fun to read and that was simply not in this book Pas any.
