What a fun and different book I certainly loved the magical realism added to this historical romance It was a nice little spark to the story I do wish that Finn, the leprechaun which don t call him that.he is a sprite hadspotlight He kept good on his promise and only stayed in the shadows and protected the family I wantof Finn Even though it is impossible with a capital I for magical beings and humans to be together, Maeve is still in love with Finn, but then trouble comes What a fun and different book I certainly loved the magical realism added to this historical romance It was a nice little spark to the story I do wish that Finn, the leprechaun which don t call him that.he is a sprite hadspotlight He kept good on his promise and only stayed in the shadows and protected the family I wantof Finn Even though it is impossible with a capital I for magical beings and humans to be together, Maeve is still in love with Finn, but then trouble comes when two other good looking fellas meet her and fall in love One is a rich railroad monger and the other is an outlaw in the making who seeks adventures Now, her poor heart is pulled in three directions Girl can t catch a break I wasn t quite sure what was going to happen and who she was going to pick, so that was refreshing HonestlyI m not sure who I would have pickedI would like to say Nikki, but I like Maeve I would have a hard time fitting in the American version of the ton Rich people can really be such assholes especially to those not only poor but not American shakes head Pity, because the Irish are awesome There were a slow couple of spots, but other then that I could hardly put the book down I would have gotten it done in one sitting, but sadly I had housework to do because company was coming over In the end, I really liked it I wished that Finn hadairtime.I do want to learnabout him Same with Maeve s brother Gavin There were a couple spots that slowed me up, but the majority was one I could hardly put down I high recommend this for this that like a touch of magic with historical romance Out of five stars, I stamp this with 4

I really expect a lotfantasy to this story, or I wouldn t normally have read it I was excited at the prospect of leprechauns in a fantasy book, since they aren t commonly seen in books not written for children I didn t get what I was hoping for This book is first and foremost a romance in a historical setting, with so few fantasy elements that it doesn t really qualify as fantasy Despite my disappointment, I ve tried to rate the book fairly for what it is, not what I hoped it would be I really expect a lotfantasy to this story, or I wouldn t normally have read it I was excited at the prospect of leprechauns in a fantasy book, since they aren t commonly seen in books not written for children I didn t get what I was hoping for This book is first and foremost a romance in a historical setting, with so few fantasy elements that it doesn t really qualify as fantasy Despite my disappointment, I ve tried to rate the book fairly for what it is, not what I hoped it would be.Main character Maeve is a hormonal 17 year old girl who embarks on a journey to America She has to leave her old life behind and start a new one, which is a big step especially at her age I think Kansas grew on her as she adjusted nicely to her new surroundings The historical aspects were nicely done, and I didn t find any glaring problems I would note that a 17 year old immigrant likely wouldn t attend school, which Maeve does for the first half of the book She falls for three different men in the course of the book, one of which is Finn from the fae realm She has always loved him, and Celtic faeries are notorious for seducing women Then there s Jaycee and finally Nikki hold that thought.Finn has only the magic of immortality and a magical hold over Maeve That s the extent of fantasy in this book He s in no way a leprechaun as we think of them This disappointed me because Celtic lore has so much whimsy, and is broad and full of life All of that wonder was left out, but if added, could have made the story delightful. The writing is decent with only a few proofread errors As far as romance goes, this is a pretty typical story with no real surprises Possible spoiler ahead I knew exactly who Nikki would turn out to be as soon as Maeve felt an inexplicable attraction for him End Spoiler I didn t care much for the main character, and she spent too much time lusting after boys and needing rescue than anything else I would like to see her stronger andadventurous, but I will say she is a believable teenage character.I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review

I wanted to like this bookthan I actually did I loved the idea of this story I appreciate magical realism and enjoy historical fiction I even really liked the characters.I would read another book by this author, perhaps a spin off of Gavin s story. The description speaks of cowboys and leprechauns, and Finn was considered a bit of both while in reality he was neither This is an unusual coming of age tale about a family trying to find a place for themselves where they could be themselves I wanted to like this bookthan I actually did I loved the idea of this story I appreciate magical realism and enjoy historical fiction I even really liked the characters.I would read another book by this author, perhaps a spin off of Gavin s story. The description speaks of cowboys and leprechauns, and Finn was considered a bit of both while in reality he was neither This is an unusual coming of age tale about a family trying to find a place for themselves where they could be themselves And about a young woman fighting for the love of her life to be allowed to be part of her life The adventures, specifically, the situations Maeve finds herself in and surrounded by, are dangerous and deceitful She fights her own nature as much as her changing circumstances. All very good elements of a successful book, but, for me, it did not live up to its full potential.I found the pace somewhat slow, where even though I felt the tension building, it was not quickly enough for me to care as deeply as I wanted to I faithfully followed along but did not get completely caught up in Maeve s story At the end, I was glad to have the epilogue to fill in the rest of the story

About the Author: Maureen Willett

Maureen Willett is a writer of fiction that pushes the boundaries of established genres Her stories mostly come from her own family legends that have been passed down through generations, but then she tops them off with a twist of faery dust and angel wings But at the core of each story are great characters in very human conflicts that anyone will find compelling Each novel is crafted as an experience that will take readers beyond their day to day lives, incorporating themes of time travel, reincarnation, and magic.
