This was my kids first Choose Your Own Adventure experience and they really enjoyed the concept and the book I listed it as YA as well as juvenile because it had a lot of technical basketball terms and well developed scenes I think younger teens or reluctant readers would enjoy it very much, as well as tweens Littler kids might need a bit of help, but maybe not if they get intrigued enough to plunge in We read one complete story cycle and it was just right for a long bedtime story I d gues This was my kids first Choose Your Own Adventure experience and they really enjoyed the concept and the book I listed it as YA as well as juvenile because it had a lot of technical basketball terms and well developed scenes I think younger teens or reluctant readers would enjoy it very much, as well as tweens Littler kids might need a bit of help, but maybe not if they get intrigued enough to plunge in We read one complete story cycle and it was just right for a long bedtime story I d guess that a complete story is about the length of a chapter in a regular book In case you don t know the concept, the stories are told as if the reader is the main character in the story 2nd person At the bottom of some of the pages you get choices as to how to proceed, and are told what page to turn to to follow your decision In this way, you can actually read many different stories with multiple endings, depending on the choices you make as the reader It was a super fun concept back in the 70s and 80s when they first came out and again with the re releases and updates starting in 2005 The first part of this story was a bit above the head of my 8 and 11 year olds, who don t have much experience with basketball yet But they are big sports fans and enjoyed it, as well as the white water rafting experience we got to in the second part of the story as we read it The boys had a great time deciding which options to pick and were looking forward to reading the book again to see how it turns out if they make different choices It was fun for me to see their personalities play out in the choices they wanted to make my bigger boy thought it would be fun to make the bad decisions and see what would happen because he thought it would make aexciting story, but my little guy always stuck to the high road I really enjoyed the book, and not just because it was so fun to introduce my kids to something I d enjoyed as a child. These books would make great gifts They are almost a game, as well as a book They have good choices for boys as well as girls My little guy liked this one so much that he begged to readon his own before lights out and had a big debate with himself whether to read another version of this story or to try the 2nd book I d brought over A big success for me
