    This collection of essays provides readers with an excellent introduction to contemporary expressions of historical memory The authors included here span a range of disciplines, including art history, literature, and cultural studies Readers should come into these essays with a basic understanding of the concepts cultural memory, historical memory, and remix used to describe things other than music Additionally, the authors tend to assume that the Civil War history is clear and well underst This collection of essays provides readers with an excellent introduction to contemporary expressions of historical memory The authors included here span a range of disciplines, including art history, literature, and cultural studies Readers should come into these essays with a basic understanding of the concepts cultural memory, historical memory, and remix used to describe things other than music Additionally, the authors tend to assume that the Civil War history is clear and well understood by their readers This is a fine assumption, but if you re fully unfamiliar with the war this book may not be for you.I highly recommend this book for people interested in the legacy of the Civil War, historical memory, and how the 19th century continues to inform art, literature, and culture in a postmodern age
