I picked this book because I love country music and I thought that it would be interesting to learn about the different types of country musicThe title tells exactly what the book is about The History of Country MusicThe author wrote this book to entertain people and tell them information that they might have not known about country musicThe typical audience for this book would be for people who like country music andor just want to learn something new3 things that I learned 1 Jimmie Rodgers is one of the most popular country singers in history I thought that was interesting because I did not know any of the much older artists then the ones that have been around in my life time 2 Ernest Tubb had the first million selling honky tonk hit in 1941 I thought that was interesting again because I did not know that and that country music was just as popular then as it is now 3 Carrie Underwood was born in Muskogee Oklahoma and when she was little she developed a four octave singing range I think that is interesting because that is a huge accomplishment There are few singers that can say that they have a four octave singing rangeThe only theme that I can think that the author is trying to get across to us is that country music has been around for a long time and that it is still popular and important 3 reading strategies 1 Visualize when I was reading this book I was visualizing how country music was back then with the only microphones and even when there was nothing but a banjo 2 Use Prior Knowledge with this book I only knew stuff about the artists that are popular now and that helped with understanding information about those artists 3 Connect I was connecting the new artists to the older artists and seeing the similarities and differencesI didn't think the book was that good It was very informational and that was nice but I don' really like to read non fiction books I wold recommend this book to someone that is doing a report on the subject but not to someone who just wants to read
