Nigugi s novel was a fascinating read A story of conflict between traditional ways and acceptance of the imposing beliefs of outsiders, Ngugi combines the aspects of imperialism in Africa into a very complelling and moving tale Waiyaki, the main character, is forced to choose between true service of his tribe or the ways of the white man quickly finding there is no river between.

the book is great for all ages that it gives motivation to stundents and adult on how life can be so complicated, the only way in and out is to sacifice something family, religion or culture and love to gain something worth fighting for.hence,it is important to know that what ever choice we make in life can affect others or us and result can be always unfare.

This is a Kenyan novel I didn t read the study guide, but read the novel, and it doesn t seem to exist on this site Perhaps it is out of print I read this in 1997 and found it absolutely fascinating, although it was very sad Waiyaki struggles to see what is the way forward for his people, after the arrival of the white missionaries I can t say too much or I will spoil the story, but many questions are raised I made a note that the relationships in the book were well written and convincing This is a Kenyan novel I didn t read the study guide, but read the novel, and it doesn t seem to exist on this site Perhaps it is out of print I read this in 1997 and found it absolutely fascinating, although it was very sad Waiyaki struggles to see what is the way forward for his people, after the arrival of the white missionaries I can t say too much or I will spoil the story, but many questions are raised I made a note that the relationships in the book were well written and convincing A fascinating book
